Glasgow Series cabinetry draws from the works and ideas of Mackintosh and Saarinen. Its basis is the counterpoint between the powerful thrust of its vertical pilasters and the lyrical curves and sweeps of the horizontal elements set between them. It is clear, crisp, clean, and timelessly modern, yet supported by a vocabulary of detail that enriches and clarifies its form. It distills the languages of form, proportion, rhythm, and detail of the cathedral and skyscraper to their essence, expressed in the form of the finest craft built cabinetry. Glasgow brings the grace, beauty, strength and symbolic meaning of inspired architecture to the residential interior. Its versatility makes it equally at home in a city apartment building or a farmhouse in the countryside. Rooted in history but freshly innovative, Glasgow creates a bridge between old and new, craft and machine, simultaneously satisfying our taste for pure form and our yearning for the warmth of tradition.
Glasgow follows the architectural model of spandrels set between continuous vertical pilasters. Standard cabinets have pilasters with a shallow rabbet on the inside edge. Pilaster width increases by a third on end panels and full size refrigeration. Intermediate pilasters are stepped on both edges. Rails (spandrels) border the top and bottom of each panel, and consist of a flat surface breaking into a concave semi elliptical scallop, transitioning to the center panel face with a shallow flat step. The flat just above the toekick on base cabinets and at the bottom edge of wall cabinets is wider than everywhere else, giving the panels weight. Tall narrow panels can be modulated by delicately stepped mid rails. At the very top, the scallop height doubles, and the composition is capped by a flat horizontal cornice. End panels extend slightly above the cornice. The overall effect shifts from rigorously vertical to softly inviting and curvilinear, depending on viewing angle, lighting, and mood. Quiet and subtle, different yet familiar, Glasgow brings a unique and ever changing experience to the thoughtfully fitted home.
